Kanye West And 50 Cent's Album Sales Decrease In 2nd Week

Both Kanye West and 50 Cent experienced a huge drop in album sales during their second week in stores.

Kanye West's "Graduation" sold 209,953 copies during its second week in stores experiencing a 77% sales decrease. The total was enough to give Kanye another platinum album with "Graduation".

50 Cent's "Curtis" experienced an 80% sales decrease selling 128,866 copies during its second week in stores. The sales inch 50 closer to platinum.

The week's other two big Hip-Hop releases, Chamillionaire's "Ultimate Victory" and Twista's "Adrenaline Rush 2007", made a minor splash on the charts.

Cham's "Ultimate Victory" debuted at #8 selling 78,039 copies while Twista's "Adrenaline Rush 2007" came in at a disappointing #13 with 38,123.

Keyshia Cole Readies 'Just Like You' For Sept. 25th

“Let It Go,” featuring Missy Elliot and Lil’ Kim, the first single from Just Like You, has seen a huge amount of success at radio seeing more than 100 million in audience and is currently top 10, #7, on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart and has ranked #1 on the “Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay” chart. DJ Envy & Red Cafe Prep 'The Co-op' For Oct. 9th

(New York, NY) – KOCH Records is pleased to announce the release of a new collaboration album, The Co-Op, by acclaimed mix tape guru/HOT 97/Sirius Radio personality, DJ Envy and esteemed lyricist Red Café. The album will be released on October 9, 2007 and features guest appearances from some of the biggest names in hip-hop including Fabolous, Fat Joe, Styles P and Sheek Louch, , Paul Wall, Nina Sky and many more.

The 1st single pair of singles off the new album will be “Dolla Bill” which features Fabolous and JD and “Things You Do” featuring Nina Sky.

DJ Envy is a two time Just-O Mix Tape Award recipient and one of New York’s leading mix tape DJs. Since starting his career in the early 2000s, he has steadily climbed the ranks of the hip-hop world, becoming known for featuring the hottest tracks and exclusives on his mix tapes by some of the best in the game including Jay-Z, Cam’Ron, and The LOX. He has also produced vigorous tracks for artists such as DMX, Foxy Brown, Ja Rule, Fabolous, Petey Pablo, and Juvenile.

Mainstream music listeners are just now getting a taste of Red Café, the man who underground audiences have heralded as a legend for almost a decade now. Red had laid down tracks with the some of the best; from 50 Cent to LL Cool J, and when he wasn’t crafting his distinctive flow, he was spreading his talent around, penning memorable songs for others.

Jay-Z will release a new album called "American Gangster" Tuesday November 6th.

The release is Jay-Z's first concept album and is inspired by the up-coming movie of the same name starring Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington.

According to the New York Times, the album came together over the past few weeks after Jay-Z was shown the film, directed by Ridley Scott, in which Denzel Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a early 1970s Harlem heroin kingpin.

Jay-Z has already recorded nine tracks for the album almost every one prompted by a specific scene.

“It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story,” he told the Times.

The first song from "American Gangster" entitled "Blue Magic" is expected to be released Sept. 20. The track is produced by the Neptunes Pharrell Williams. The song is said to have a 80s New York feel to it.

Denzel Washington had reportedly asked the film's producer, Brian Grazer to persuade Jay-Z to record the film's soundtrack.

“I just didn’t think there’d be enough for Jay-Z to do,” Mr. Grazer said, explaining that he resisted because he and Mr. Scott felt the movie required an authentic 1970s feel.

"No Hook", a song on "American Gangster" has Jay-Z rhyming the following lines:

"Please don’t compare me to other rappers. Compare me to trappers.

I’m more Frank Lucas than Ludacris. And Lude is my dude, I ain’t trying to dis.

Just like Frank Lucas is cool, but I ain’t tryin’ to snitch.

I’m-a follow the rules, no matter how much time I’m-a get.

I’m-a live and die with the decisions that I’m-a pick."

On another new song called "Pray", Jay-Z touches on his swagger:

Rumor has is Jay-Z will be calling his next album Boss Hova (This is the title floating around the web right now, subject to change). This supposed project is to adopt a more retro feel that will remind fans of the Golden Era of Roc-A-Fella. We heard that he’s got a song with Beanie Sigel and Bleek that is already finished. No one seems to know how close this album is to completion but we hear that Kanye, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, and DJ Toomp will be lending production for the album. After being defeated by Kanye West on the UK album charts, 50 Cent has accused Def Jam of rigging Kanye's album sales.

"He's never had a fraction of the sales 50 Cent has. They (Def Jam) could have one scan and have it count four times. West's entire career hasn't sold half what I sold on my first album" 50 told UNCUT.

West's single 'Stronger' has also beaten 50's 'Ayo Technology' - charting at three and five respectively on the singles charts.

Weekend sales figures shows Kanye West’s IDJ album Graduation at the top of the class, with the numbers now topping 850k and approaching 900k, while 50 Cent’s Shady/Aftermath/ Interscope album Curtis isn’t doing too shabby itself, with a one-week total that will top 625k and could go as high as 650k. SBMG Nashville star Kenny Chesney is trailing the two, with a still-impressive number hovering around 425k. Disney’s High School Musical 2 will also be in six figures, with around 115-120k insuring a #4 finish. source

Billboard has learned that today's SoundScan Building Chart indicates first-day sales of 437,000 for West's "Graduation," 310,000 for 50 Cent's "Curtis" and 107,000 for Chesney's "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates."

September 12, 2007 -- Kanye West is making chump change out of rival 50 Cent.

The preppy singer's CD was handily beating his Queens-born rapper foe's in online sales on several sites as both albums debuted yesterday.

West's "Graduation," the latest installment in his college-themed trilogy, soared to the top of the charts on Amazon.com, while "Fitty's" landed at a disappointing No. 6.

With iTunes, West's new album was ranked as the second best seller of the day.

"This album is simply amazing," one customer posted. "Buy it now and forget about 50 Cent for a while."

On the same site, 50 Cent's "Curtis" CD - his real name is Curtis Jackson - landed in the ninth spot.

Fitty famously boasted he would stop making solo records if West beat him in first-week album sales.

Still, at local stores, the matchup appeared to be fairly even.

"They're pretty close," said Eclipse, the manager of Fat Beats in Manhattan. "I'd say we probably moved more Kanye than 50, but it's pretty neck-and-neck."

As for the rivalry between West and Fitty, it seems to be good for business for both of them, which may explain why Fitty seemed awful chummy with his supposed rival at the MTV Music Awards Sunday night. source

Kanye West Accepts 106 And Park Debate With Against 50 Cent

Rapper Kanye West has accepted 50 Cent's challenge to appear live on BET's countdown show 106 & Park on Tuesday, September 11, the day both of their highly anticipated albums are released.

Terrence and Rocsi will host a "battle" during the show, where 50 Cent will perform singles from his upcoming album Curtis, while Kanye West will perform songs from his upcoming effort, Graduation.

ESPN's Stuart Scott will deliver commentary and a statistical breakdown of both 50 Cent and Kanye West.

"How could I not come to 106 & PARK on the day my album comes out? I'm definitely coming," West stated, while 50 Cent said ominously: "Just make sure that Kanye West shows up."

50 Cent and Kanye West will appear live on 106 & Park on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:00 PM.
